「えっ，どうしたの？ 地震の話ならパパとママからも聴いたことがあるよ．」
「どんなことを聴いた？」
「うん，パパとママがまだ子供の頃，みんなが経験しなかったくらい大きい地震で，それだけじゃなくて，津波で人もいっぱい死んだし，家もいっぱい流されたって」
「そうか，ちゃんと聴いているんだね．じゃ，原発事故の話は聴いたことあるかい？」
「原発事故って？ 地震の時，なんか事故が起きたの？」
「そう，起きたんだ．あの頃原子力発電所というところがあって，地震のせいで事故が起きた．放射性物資っていうやつがたくさんまき散らされて，周囲には人が住めなくなったんだよ．」
「原子力発電所って何？ この前習ったのは，地磁気発電所と，えーっと，太陽光発電所と，あと，月に作った太陽風発電所しか知らないよ．」
「そっか，今はもうそれだけで電気を造ってるんだよね．」
「そう言えば，歴史の時間に原子力発電所の事故を聴いたことあるかな．でもよくわかんなかった．」
「うん，もう昔の話だからね．パパとママだって，まだ小学生だったから良く憶えていないかもしれないね．」
「そこで何かあったの？」
「じいちゃんがもう少し若かった頃，日本には１７もの場所に５４個もの原子炉っていうものがあったんだ．今はもうどこも動いて無いけど，放射性物質っていうのが閉じ込められていて，未だに危ないんだ． 若い子達にはわからないかな．」
「うっそー！．そんなこと知らなかったし，友達の誰も知らないよ．それで原子炉って何？」
「いやーっ，難しいな．そうだね，原子炉って大きなお釜のことかな？ そっかお釜も知らないか．むちゃくちゃに大きなお湯を沸かす機械だね．それで発電をしていたんだ．お湯を沸かして発電するのは，今の地磁気発電所とそう変わらないかな．ただお湯を沸かす時に，体にとても有害な放射性物質っていうものが出来ちゃって，それが人や空気や土地，海までも汚しちゃったんだ．」
「汚すって？ キレイに出来なかったの？ 今もダメなの？」
「うん，そんな簡単じゃなかったんだな．なんてったって半分に減るのに何万年もかかるんだよ．だからきれいになるまで気が遠くなるくらい長くかかるんだ．想像も出来ないね！」
「何万年か．うん，全然想像できない！」
「地震の影響でね，お釜，じゃなくてお湯を沸かす機械が壊れちゃったんだ．そこから放射性物質っていうものがたくさん漏れちゃって，大変だったんだよ．みんな逃げなくちゃならなかったんだ．」
「さっきも出てきた放射性物質ってなんなの？」
「放射性物質ってね，放射線を出すものをいうんだ．放射線っていうのは，それを浴びると癌の原因になったり，赤ちゃんの奇形の原因になるんだ．あの頃は大変だった．みんなこども達のことが心配で心配で，誰に何を聴いても安心できなかった．医者もとりあえず様子を見ましょうと言うだけで，将来のことは何も教えてくれなかった．思えば，昔はだれも将来のことを言い切ることは出来なかったんだね．今はもう大丈夫だけど．」
「なんで今はもう大丈夫なの？」
「今はね，放射線で傷ついたDNAを遺伝子治療で治せる様になったからね．でも当時はそんな治療法はなかったんだ．だから病気になるのが恐ろしくて仕方なかったんだよ．」
「じゃなんで今は原子力発電所は無いの？ 放射線を浴びても直るんでしょ．直るんならいいんじゃない？」
「確かにそうだね．体は治るようになったね．でもね，傷ついた心までは直せないんだよ．あの恐怖を直すこと，消すことは無理だったんだ．だからみんなで原子力発電所に反対したんだ．すぐに止めろってね．電気が無くなると困るからすぐには変わらなかったけど，１０年くらいはかかったかな．」
「昔は大変だったんだね．」
「そう，大変だった．パパもママも一時期放射線から避難したんだよ．避難できたからパパもママも健康なんだ．だから今のお前も元気に生まれてきたんだよ．良い時代になったね．」
「良い時代になったって言われても良く分かんない．だって今のが普通じゃない．」
「そう，普通が一番いいよ．でもその頃は誰もそんなことは考えられなかった．余震ていう地震も２ヶ月以上も続いたし，またいつ原発事故が起きるのか不安だらけだったからね．」
「もう事故は起きないの？」
「今はもう大丈夫だっていう話だよ．あの頃，原発を真剣に考えた人だけの賢者会議っていうのがあって，そうとう厳重な対策を考えたんだ．政府や電力会社の対策より，賢者会議の対策に賛成した国民がほとんどで，とうとう実現したんだ．最初からその人達の話を聴いていれば，あんな事故は起きなくても済んだかもしれないって，みんな言ってた．」
「じゃ，今はそんな心配は要らないんだね．」
「じいちゃんもそう思うよ．だから良い時代になったね，と言ったんだ．」
「ところで，なんで今日は急に地震の話をしたの？」
「わからない？ 今日は地震の怪我で死んだおばあちゃんの命日なんだ．今も元気にお前達に逢いたかったろうね．」
「そっか，おばあちゃんのことは写真でしか知らない．」
「大丈夫だよ．天国のおばあちゃんは，お前達を天国から見守ってる．ずっとずっと，放射線の恐怖を知らなくていい様に，永遠にお前達を見守っているよ．お前達が，お前達の子供にこんな昔話をしなくてもいいように．」
